In the midst of a holiday season full of joy and cheer, there are some that are dealing with grief and loss: death, sickness, job loss, broken relationships, unrealized dreams for the future. Grief if not a sickness to be cured, but part of what it means to be human. This Blue Christmas Service will acknowledge that reality when the Christmas season tries to mask it. Together we will name our losses and search for the hope that Emmanuel (God with us) brings.

If you are struggling or grieving in little or big ways, consider joining us for this service of remembrance and hope.

This event was a wonderful way to spend a Saturday. The time and energy that the children and adults put into this was definitely worthwhile. I'm looking forward to next year's live Nativity and Marketplace. ... See MoreSee Less

One week from today! Bethlehem Marketplace is a wonderful opportunity for kids (and adults!) to make gifts for loved ones and for all to connect with the real reason for the season.

Bethlehem MarketplaceDec 2, 10:00amFirst United Methodist Church of PalatinePlease join us at our annual Bethlehem Marketplace! Our fellowship hall will be transformed into the thriving marketplace of Bethlehem at the time of Christ’s birth. For no admission charge you can experience the excitement of this lively market, featuring many ancient crafts: baskets, candles, dreidels, leather, spices, and others.

But this marketplace is unique: guests don’t buy the crafts, they actually make them themselves! Guests may buy bags of “Roman” coins and exchange these for the fun of creating these many crafts found in first-century Bethlehem. Children may earn a little surprise for proving their Bible-times knowledge after reading several ‘culture posters’. The kids have fun learning while they enjoy making the crafts.

Guests may also enjoy foods found in the Bible at “Rachel’s Inn” at the market. For a modest sum, feast on the always-popular lentil soup, flatbread and honey, grapes, apples, dates, olives, cheese, hummus & pita chips, dried meat, dried fruit, and cookies.

The highlight of the day is the live nativity. Watch as the wise men enter the marketplace seeking the newborn king. Listen as King Herod interrogates them for the baby’s whereabouts. Then follow the men as they search and find the stable. Hear the wondrous story of the miraculous birth of Jesus. Watch the setting come to life as travelers honor the baby Jesus. Then raise your voice to God, as everyone sings favorite hymns of joyous celebration.

Not only is this event a wonderful place to spend quality time together as a family, but it’s a great way to kick off the Christmas season in fellowship with people from throughout the Palatine community. Come be a part of it!

We are praying for our Methodist sisters and brothers in Pakistan following a deadly attack on a church in Quetta.

Father of us all, I pray for those affected by the conflict in Pakistan, for softening of hearts that have been caused by years of conflict. Please, Jesus, bring mercy and justice to all who are struggling, and encourage us to keep them in our prayers for peace. Amen

A member of our church, a Pakistani Christian, said the 4 yr. old daughter of his friend was Killed there. Lord, hold them in your arms and lift them up.

Matthew 24:1-36 24 As Jesus was leaving the Temple grounds, his disciples came along and wanted to take him on a tour of the various Temple buildings. 2 But he told them, “All these buildings will be knocked down, with not one stone left on top of another!” 3 “When will this happen?” the disciples asked him later, as he sat on the slopes of the Mount of Olives. “What events will signal your return and the end of the world?”[a] 4 Jesus told them, “Don’t let anyone fool you. 5 For many will come claiming to be the Messiah and will lead many astray. 6 When you hear of wars beginning, this does not signal my return; these must come, but the end is not yet. 7 The nations and kingdoms of the earth will rise against each other, and there will be famines,Pestilences, and earthquakes in many places. 8 But all this will be only the beginning of the horrors to come. 9 “Then you will be tortured and killed and hated all over the world because you are mine, 10 and many of you shall fall back into sin and betray and hate each other. 11 And many false prophets will appear and lead many astray. 12 Sin will be rampant everywhere and will cool the love of many. 13 But those enduring to the end shall be saved. 14 “And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it, and then, finally, the end will come. 15 “So, when you see the horrible thing[b] (told about by Daniel* the prophet) standing in a holy place (Note to the reader: You know what is meant!*), 16 then those in Judea must flee into the Judean hills. 17 Those on their porches[c] must not even go inside to pack before they flee. 18 Those in the fields should not return to their homes for their clothes. 19 “And woe to pregnant women and to those with babies in those days. 20 And pray that your flight will not be in winter, or on the Sabbath.[d] 21 For there will be persecution such as the world has never before seen in all its history and will never see again. 22 “In fact, unless those days are shortened, all mankind will perish. But they will be shortened for the sake of God’s chosen people.[e] 23 “Then if anyone tells you, ‘The Messiah has arrived at such and such a place, or has appeared here or there,’ don’t believe it. 24 For false Christs shall arise, and false prophets, and will do wonderful miracles so that if it were possible, even God’s chosen ones[f] would be deceived. 25 See, I have warned you. 26 “So if someone tells you the Messiah has returned and is out in the desert, don’t bother to go and look. Or, that he is hiding at a certain place, don’t believe it! 27 For as the lightning flashes across the sky from east to west, so shall my coming be, when I, the Messiah,[g] return. 28 And wherever the carcass is, there the vultures will gather. 29 “Immediately after the persecution of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give light, and the stars will seem to fall from the heavens,[h] and the powers overshadowing the earth will be convulsed.* 30 “And then at last the signal of my coming[i] will appear in the heavens, and there will be deep mourning all around the earth. And the nations of the world will see me arrive in the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. 31 And I shall send forth my angels with the sound of a mighty trumpet blast, and they shall gather my chosen ones from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven.[j] 32 “Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When her branch is tender and the leaves begin to sprout, you know that summer is almost here. 33 Just so, when you see all these things beginning to happen, you can know that my return is near,[k] even at the doors. 34 Then at last this age will come to its close.[l] 35 “Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words remain forever. 36 But no one knows the date and hour when the end will be—not even the angels. No, nor even God’s Son.[m] Only the Father knows.

How about we pray for ALL affected by that?

It is not easy to be Christian in Pakistan. God bless this Methodist church and those who endure this violence.

Praying for all who lost loved ones in this tragedy.

Lord, have mercy, and hear our prayers.

There are so many of these. Let's pray for all people who are not safe at their places of worship.

Matthew 24:7-8 (Christ said) for nation will rise against nation kingdom against kingdom there shall be wars, famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in divers places all these are the beginning of sorrows. according to the Bible not mine own words

So very saddened to hear about this. Prayers

Praying for all affected by this deadly attack...🙏

Some times I feel a little guilty because I don't always appreciate our freedom o worship!

Such turmoil in so many places. Keep them in prayer.

Prayers for all effected by this senseless violence.

My prayers for Christians that were involved in that tragedy

They are in my thoughts and prayers.

Lord, hear our prayers for these Pakistani people.

May God comfort the bereaved families

May The Lord be with all those affected in one way or another in this awefull tragedy 😰😱😨😲😲😲😲

Prayers for all. O Lord hear our prayers.

Prayers and blessings❤️🙏🏻

Lord, hear our prayers!

Praying

Amen.
